This page gives a detailed description (hopefully) of how to install and uninstall NETI@home for your favorite OS.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: (Note: these instructions must be followed in order)

Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP

If you do not have WinPcap 3.0 or greater or are unsure, simply install NETI@home from the Windows NT/2000/XP with WinPcap self-installing executable.
Otherwise, if you are certain that you have WinPcap 3.0 or greater, simply install NETI@home from the Windows NT/2000/XP without WinPcap self-installing executable.

Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me

If you do not have WinPcap 3.0 or greater or are unsure, simply install NETI@home from the Windows 95/98/Me with WinPcap self-installing executable.
Otherwise, if you are certain that you have WinPcap 3.0 or greater, simply install NETI@home from the Windows 95/98/Me without WinPcap self-installing executable.

Redhat Linux

  1. Make certain that you have libpcap installed.
  2. Install the NETI@home RPM.
  3. Modify the configuration file (/etc/neti.conf) to your liking.
  4. Add NETI@home to init.d (to have it run every time) using the neti.script file.

Mac OS X

  1. Install the NETI@home Mac Package by simply double-clicking.
  2. Modify the configuration file (/etc/neti.conf) to your liking.
  3. On your next restart, NETI@home will automatically start or you can start before your reboot by running /usr/sbin/neti as root.

Sun Solaris

  1. Make certain that you have libpcap installed.
  2. Install NETI@home using the NETI@home tarball distribution.
  3. Modify the configuration file (/etc/neti.conf) to your liking.
  4. Add NETI@home to init.d (to have it run every time) using the neti.script file.

Others (especially various other Linux distributions and *NIXes)
This method has been reported to work for:

  1. No other OS's have been tested yet, continue at your own risk, and please let us know what you find. Thanks!
  2. Make certain that you have libpcap installed.
  3. Try using the NETI@home tarball.
  4. Modify the configuration file (/etc/neti.conf) to your liking.
  5. Add NETI@home to init.d (to have it run every time) using the neti.script file.
